Day 1

Well now that all of that is out of the way might as well get started, lots going on in the world and much to discuss.

Today the United States was hit with tragedy as the Boston Marathon was hit by two confirmed bombs and truly has caught us all off guard. Throughout this horrific occasion there have been amazing stories of heroism and sacrifice that I wish to highlight. First and foremost thanks must be given to the amazing work of the first responders, police, medical personel and others helping those effected- their service and sacrifice can never be overstated as these individuals do so much for other that is unfortunately under-appreciated.

But one other story I want to highlight are those brief mentions of the marathon runners who not only finished the race but some continued running to the hospital to donate blood for those the victims in need:

"Reports of Marathon Runners that crossed finish line and continued to run to Mass General Hospital to give blood to victims" (Tweeted by NBCSN)

Soon thereafter the Red Cross began to report that is was overwhelmed with offers for blood donations and had to turn people away.

I have no idea who these men and women were that decided to continue on after the race to help others but this truly amazes me as these individuals finishing probably one of the most grueling ordeals of their lives in a marathon were able to "deny themselves" in order to put the potential need of others first.

This example hits home for me because how often do I let my circumstances and situations affect my actions and heart to give to others. But this real life example in a horrible situation of how we can still be the examples we are called to regardless of what is going on around us.

Please continue to pray for those who have been affected by today.

Matt 16:24 "Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me."

Why "Running the Race"

Hey,

So this is my first post for this blog and I thought it would be best to explain what I will be posting about; "Running the Race" for me is both a lifestyle (spiritually) and a hobby ( I LOVE SPORTS). A long time ago I agreed to a request from some close friends to start writing up what my thoughts are about in the sporting world but that was on and off so heres my attempt to get started again.
That being said if you are anything like me, sports and the outdoors in general tie heavily into how I view life and even my walk with God, but if you aren't like me maybe I can help give a little insight into those who are like me or just a bit of information you will find helpful and entertaining. So this blog will be a little bit of a mixture of my own thoughts on life, sports and the spiritual side of things.

If you ever have any input, feedback, or something you want me to write about please let me know and I will do my best to oblige. That being said I hope you enjoy and I look forward to the journey of what lies ahead.

1 Cor 9:24-27

"You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You’re after one that’s gold eternally. I don’t know about you, but I’m running hard for the finish line. I’m giving it everything I’ve got. No sloppy living for me! I’m staying alert and in top condition. I’m not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself."
